FAQ
What smartphones and devices are compatible with the GPTrex app?
This free app is compatible with any device running iOS 4. This includes the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Please note that extensive WiFi coverage is required to enable location-based content on some models of iPad and the iPod touch. This is because these devices do not have GPS and depend on WiFi triangulation.
Is the GPTrex app available on other smartphones?
At this time, the GPTrex app is available on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. If you wish to reach visitors that do not have these devices, it is easy to purchase a stock of compatible devices and implement a check-out system at your venue.
Do families need to download the GPTrex app before visiting my site?
No. The GPTrex app is only 2.6 MB and can be downloaded quickly over a normal data connection. This means that you can promote your GPTrex adventures with on-site signage.
Can adventures be indoors?
Absolutely! When designing an indoor adventure, note that GPS does not work well indoors. If you would like to include location-based content indoors, you will need extensive WiFi coverage to enable WiFi triangulation.
What kind of signal and how strong of a signal is required?
The GPTrex app is specially designed to load fast and run light. It runs great on any Internet connection – EDGE, 3G or WiFi. It does NOT require a traditional cell phone signal, only a data connection.
Can adventure content be updated?
Absolutely! For scheduled updates or minor updates due to unexpected changes, just email GPTrex. Minor changes can be “live” within 24 hours.
Is the GPTrex app connected to social media?
Yes. Families may choose to opt-in to an online ranking, which recognizes the most adventuresome families! Families may also choose to share their completed adventures on Facebook. Both features are optional.
How does the GPTrex app accommodate the visually impaired?
The GPTrex app supports Apple’s innovative, built-in accessibility features. These include the VoiceOver screen reader in 21 languages, output to wireless Braille displays, screen magnification, and White On Black screen contrasting. These are features familiar to Apple users that can be easily toggled on/off. You can learn more about them at

Can the adventure icon and sponsor banner be customized?
Definitely! GPTrex will work with you to design an adventure icon that will represent your “official” adventures on the GPTrex Main Menu. Depending on the terms of your MoU, we will also work with you to design a sponsor banner that is displayed at the bottom of each adventure. This banner can be updated easily and can be hyperlinked to a website. You may choose to display your logo or promote other activities/programs.
Does GPTrex provide content development, graphic design, or audio/video services?
No one knows your site like you do. In most cases, site partners independently develop content and supply the graphics/video/audio. To get you started and provide guidance, GPTrex has a Certified Interpretive Planner available. GPTrex will also work with you to convert graphics/video/audio into the proper format. If you are unable to dedicate the time/resources to develop your own adventure content, special arrangements can be made to have GPTrex’s in-house specialists develop an adventure for your site for an additional fee. Please contact GPTrex for details.
What is the difference between a free adventure and a paid adventure?
GPTrex works with venues of all sizes and budgets. For venues with a limited budget, GPTrex offers a revenue sharing program. Venues pay nothing to publish their adventures, then visitors are charged $2.99 to access each adventure. For venues that wish to offer free adventures to visitors, GPTrex charges a small annual sponsorship fee based on annual visitation and the number of branded adventures. Please contact GPTrex for details.
